Previous Year Exam Trends to Make You Successful in NEET

NEET Exams 2018

NEET 2018 will be conducted on 6th May 2018. It will be a single-paper exam with a duration of three hours or 180 minutes. There will be 180 MCQs to solve in the paper – which means that you’ll roughly get 40 seconds to solve each question in the exam.

Keep in mind that you’ll need some time to complete the formalities in the examination hall, read the instructions carefully, and to revise the paper in the end.

Each correct answer will fetch you +4 marks while each incorrect answer will result in -1 mark. No marks are granted for questions that are not attempted or for questions where students incorrectly choose more than one answer.

Like the last year, NEET 2018 will also be conducted offline. There is a high probability that NEET 2019 will be conducted online though.

Latest Updates about the NEET exam

According to the most recent notifications, NIOS pass-outs can also apply for NEET 2018 exam. Moreover, general-category students above the age of 25 years and those with Biology as an additional subject can apply for NEET too.

Students interested in taking AYUSH courses (which include Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) will have to appear for NEET exam too. So, even if you are not targeting for the MBBS or the BDS course, you will have to do NEET preparation to become a doctor (of any genre).

To make sure there is no cheating this year, it has been mandatory that the candidates will have to validate their Aadhaar number through the UIDAI website for NEET registrations.

CBSE has thankfully increased the number of NEET centers this year from 84 to 150 – making the exam centers more accessible for students.

As per the previous years’ AIPMT and NEET trends, Physics is usually the toughest of the three sections and involves lengthy calculations. Mechanics, Electrodynamics and Modern Physics are the most important topics. Other important topics are Modern Physics, Electrodynamics, KTG & Thermodynamics, Semiconductors, Wave Optics, and Rigid Body Dynamics.

There were 8 difficult, 27 moderate, and 10 easy questions in the Physics section last year.

In NEET 2017, Class XII portion spewed a greater number of questions. Earlier, Inorganic Chemistry had the highest weight-age in the paper but last year, Organic Chemistry became the favorite of the NEET examiners. Most of the Chemistry questions were conceptual and application-based. While the questions from Class XI syllabus were moderately difficult, some of the questions from Class XII syllabus were trickier.

According to the NEET coaching experts, some of the important topics in Chemistry for NEET 2018 are Chemical Bonding, Carbonyl Compounds, Organic Chemistry (Part I), and Coordination Compounds.

Biology section in the NEET 2017 paper was the easiest one but traditionally, this section has been quite difficult in the medical entrance exams. This year, it is expected that this section will be slightly more difficult than last year.

Remember, in Biology, there are 45 questions from Botany and 45 from Zoology. Most of the questions are from NCERT books and so, you should focus on them during your NEET preparation.

The two most important topics in Biology are Plant Physiology and Diversity, and Human Physiology. You should pay special attention to the Plant Anatomy, Pollination, and Photosynthesis, PAGE Theory, DNA Replication, Digestive System, Endocrine System, and Excretory and Nervous System.

Good Luck!
