Rainy day activities for Kids

Nobody likes being stuck indoors on a rainy day, but this can be especially boring for children. This can make entertaining them tricky when the weather isn’t on your side. This begs the question, how can entertain your children on a rainy day? We’ve compiled our best ideas to help you battle boredom!

Kids Cartoons

Just in case no one has told you, we’d like to let you know that cartoons aren’t bad for children. In fact, if you choose the right free kid’s cartoons, you can let your children laugh and learn something at the same time too!

Movie Marathon

Rainy days are the perfect time to have a movie marathon. Choose a series or ask each of your children to pick one of their favourite movies, heat up some popcorn, sit back and relax.

Board Games

With a good board game, you can keep your children entertained for hours regardless of the weather. Before buying a board game, however, make sure that it’s age appropriate for your children. The last thing that you want is to purchase a game that’s too difficult for them to understand.

Card Games

A simple deck of cards offers endless possibilities for kids stuck indoors. There are hundreds of games available that you can find the rules online for, or you can do other things like building a house of cards – the only limit is how creative you can be! The good news is that kids are fast learners, so once you teach them a game once, you probably won’t need to do it again.

Treasure Hunt

Treasure hunts are fun and easy to organise. All you need is a few clues and a prize and you’ll be able to create a wonderful adventure at home for your children. If you want to make it extra special, you could use a theme. For example, you could pick a pirate theme by drawing a map on a piece of paper and getting your kids to dress up.

Make your own movie

Thanks to our phones, you can shoot and edit a video at home with ease. This means that you can create a mini movie with your kids at home. Sit down with them to come up with a few scenes, gather some props and costumes, then lights, camera, and action! Once finished, be sure to do a screening with some popcorn.

Arts and crafts

Arts and crafts are a great way to hide from the weather. This could be something as simple as drawing or colouring, or even decorating a frame with dried pasta! Don’t be afraid to let your children’s imaginations run wild. Who knows, you may get some great new home décor out of the process!

Build a fort

Building a blanket or pillow fort is a time-honoured rainy day tradition. So when it gets gloomy outside, raid your linen closet and let your children build something that they can escape the elements in. You can always let your children have a sleepover in the fort for an extra special experience.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, there are plenty of ways that you can entertain your little ones on a rainy day.
